Pharmaceutics

When talking about the universal properties of aluminium, it is necessary to remember the following: that metal tableware and aircrafts are made of the same substance which is also widely used to cure disease. For this purpose it is certified by the World Health Organization.

In 1926, it was discovered that diphtherial toxoid, treated by alums, (waterless bacterial toxin) stimulates the production of antibodies better than in its pure form. Since then, aluminium salts have often been used to reinforce vaccines, as they are not considered to be harmful to humans.

The most effective antacids are based on aluminium. Aluminium hydroxide, which neutralizes the acid very well, is required to cure peptic ulcer disease, dyspepsia, and gastric irritation. Aluminium phosphates are used for this purpose too.

Even deodarants and anti-perspirants contain aluminium. The ancient Greeks and Romans used alums to reduce sweating. The first anti-perspirants and deodrants contained aluminium chloride, and the main agent in modern products is aluminium hydrochloride. However, it is still not known exactly, what their effect is based on.
