Rio Tinto third quarter 2007 operations review

Third quarter bauxite production was 15 percent above the third quarter of 2006 and ten percent above the previous quarter, reflecting increased capacity from the commissioning of the second shiploader.

Alumina production at Yarwun was consistent with the level of the third quarter of 2006. Rio Tinto’s overall share of alumina production in the third quarter of 2007 was slightly ahead of the previous year on a comparable basis, but 17 percent lower taking into account the sale of Eurallumina in October 2006.

Production at the aluminium smelters was comparable with the third quarter of 2006 and the previous quarter of 2007. Year to date production was two percent higher than 2006.
