Alcoa Defense Awarded Contract For Naval Design Services

Alcoa Inc.'s (AA) defense division was a awarded a contract from the Naval Surface Warfare Center’s Carderock Division for design and engineering services for the Littoral Combat Ship, a high-speed shallow-water craft.

Terms of the deal weren’t disclosed.

The New York-based aluminum company said it will be involved in the early stages of development and may enable breakthroughs in marine alloys and fire-retardant coatings, benefiting future naval vessels.
