Alcoa Sets Aluminum Beverage Can Recycling Rate Goal

Alcoa Inc. (AA) set a goal to raise the industry’s beverage can recycling rate in North America to 75% from 52% by 2015.

The aluminum producer said recycled aluminum requires 95% less energy to produce and can be recycled a multitude of times.

The company said in the U.S. aluminum beverage can market of over 1.5 million metric tons a year, about 800,000 tons of beverage cans are currently being recycled.
