Kaiser Aluminum Corp. (KALU) said Tuesday fourth-quarter earnings more than doubled to $24.4 million, or $1.20 a share, from $11.9 million, or 59 cents a share, a year earlier, as the company capitalized on strong demand for aerospace and defense-related products.

Net sales for the fourth quarter increased 7.3% to $360.5 million from $336.1 million a year ago.

Analysts polled by Thomson Financial, on average, had been expecting earnings of 93 cents a share for the Foothill Ranch, Calif., aluminum maker.
