Alcoa Inc. (AA) merged its wheel products unit with its auto and truck structures business to strengthen its group transportation portfolio.

The Pittsburgh aluminum provider named Kevin Kramer president of the new wheel and transportation products unit, which will be headquartered in Cleveland. Kramer, 48 years old, currently serves as president of Alcoa’s wheel products division.

The consolidated business will employ 2,800 people at 30 locations around the world, the company said.

Alcoa shares were recently trading up 70 cents, or 1.9%, at $37.84.
