Chalco To Add 880,000 Tons Alumina Capacity In June — Source

McKinsey study: Global demand for aluminum to grow faster than expected

McKinsey study indicates that, looking towards 2025, global demand for aluminum is likely to grow faster than GDP growth and will total approximately 90 million metric tons by 2025. This latter figure represents more than double the demand recorded by the industry in 2007, and is also 20% higher than the figure previously expected by industry analysts and participants. The main demand drivers will be infrastructure and business construction in developing economies, particularly in China, but also in other emerging regions, such as India and the Middle East.

Rusal, the owner of 25%-plus-two shares in Russian mining giant OAO Norilsk Nickel (GMKN.RS), wants changes to Norilsk’s board structure and an independent chairman, while questioning current Norilsk policy and strategy. "We consider it appropriate to change the current structure of the board to make it balanced and to have directors, representing interests of all three groups of shareholders equally," Rusal’s Director of Corporate Strategy Artem Volynets told Dow Jones Newswires Tuesday.
