RUSAL announces new executive appointments in its Aluminium Division

RUSAL, the world’s largest producer of aluminium and alumina, has announced the appointment of Yuri Moisseev, former managing director of the Nadvoitsy aluminium smelter, as the new managing director of the Bogoslovsk aluminium smelter. Alexander Krasovitski, the current director of RUSAL Production Systems Department at RUSAL Krasnoyarsk is appointed to the position of managing director of the Nadvoitsy smelter, whilst Oleg Burkatski, former managing director of the Bogoslovsk aluminium smelter, will take over from Alexander Krasovitski as the new head of this department at the Krasnoyarsk aluminium smelter.

Rio Tinto releases third quarter 2009 operations review

Rio Tinto has released its third quarter operational review. Chief executive Tom Albanese said: "We are seeing early signs of a recovery in some of our key markets, although we remain cautious about the near term outlook. Our businesses continue to operate efficiently: iron ore production set a new quarterly record, with shipments to China maintained at a high level. We also benefited from higher third quarter production at all of our copper operations compared with last year. Cost reductions continue apace and we have made considerable progress on divestments this quarter enabling us to further reduce net debt."

Alcoa Strengthens Cash Position and Returns to Profitability in Third Quarter

Alcoa today announced third quarter 2009 income from continuing operations of $73 million, or $0.07 per diluted share, compared to a loss from continuing operations of $312 million, or $0.32 per share, in the second quarter 2009. Income from continuing operations in the third quarter of 2008 was $306 million, or $0.37 per share. Excluding restructuring and special items, income for the third quarter 2009 was $39 million, or $0.04 per share.
